Win10 Tablet Wont Connect Open Wifi But Can To Encrypted Wifi

Ok, so I just did a windows update, and afterwards, I can't connect to my home open wifi (I live out in the boonies and don't need encrypted). I can see the signal, full bars, but there's a shield next to the icon.
I can connect to IOT test wifi as that needs a pw for those devices

So why is it that I can connect to encrypted wifi, but can't to open wifi?!?!

disabled/enabled NIC: check
enabled/disabled airplanemode: check
disabled/enabled device in device manager: check
"Forgot" network connection and reconnected: check
power cycled tablet: check
turned "off" tablet and powered up: check

Nothing seems to have worked so far.
