windows 10 wont recognise my arducopter board via usb

i am trying to configure my ardupilot mega 2560 flight controller
windows 10 wont even show that it is plugged in? via usb

Do you see unrecognized devices in the "Device Manager"? If not - it could be that your board needs too much power off the USB port, so you can try another port (eg on the back panel of your desktop), or thru powered USB hub.

You might also happen to have dude board ;(
