Windows 7 update boot issue

I have a Windows 7 Lenovo V570 that is about 4-5 years old. When I went to shut it down earlier today it went to the "Windows update in progress" screen. After the update was finished (I assume) the laptop shutdown. Now it will not even boot up, no boot screen, just an occasionally flickering black screen, I can not even get to the setup screen to boot into safe mode. I have unplugged the charger and removed the battery letting it sit for 20-30 minutes and the problem persists. Should I take it to Best Buy, is there something I can do at home, or is my laptop screwed?

may help removing battery and hold power button for couple minutes then reinsert battery and try boot.is the CD drive empty.HOOK TO THE OTHER MONITOR GOOD SOLUTION TOO.
