Windows 7 wont load

I have a Sony Vaio NW-240F laptop. I have tried everything and it wont load the OS. I was using it and it just went into shut down mode on its on. I restarted it and I see the vaio logo, then a black screen with a flashing line in the top left corner. Thats it. I went into the bios and it shows the hard drive has 320GB. I used the F10 button to run the diagnostics and also used the fix any errors box but it didnt not show any problems. I then did a complete system restore with no problems or hang ups during the install. It then reboots and back to the same black screen with flashing little line. The F8 button does not work. When I first turn it on, the power, battery & HD light all come on. The HD light flashes till the logo comes on, then nothing. It also flashes when I am running diagnostics or doing the install and I can hear it running with no strange noises. I have also reseated the hard drive and the memory. Does anybody know what else I can do? I really need my laptop for school. Thanks!

No, it is no longer under warranty and I cant get in safe mode (F8). I can get into the Bios (F2) and into Diagnostics (F10)

I had ran a malware scan with Malware Bytes (?). It found some stuff and I clicked the button to get rid of it. After that it popped up with the screen, Shutting Down and that was it. Could not get it to go into OS after that. I am working on getting a CD. I dont have one as of right now.

I had done a system restore a week before. I ran the Malware program, deleted whatever it found and within seconds my computer shut down. One of the last things I have done to get my computer back up was to go into F10 and do a complete system overhaul. It didnt work so now I am at my wits end.

Yes I have done a complete system restore. I just took the hard drive down to a local computer shop and had them hook it up. They were able to access it with no problem. I am now running another diagnostic on it thru F10. So far the short tests were fine. All the CPU test and the linear test all came back no error

While it is possible that the image you restored is the problem, that seems rather unlikely. I suggest you download Ubuntu Linux (link is below and you'll need access to a working PC with a disk burner). Get the ISO here and burn to CD:

http/www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download

Then boot from the optical drive in your laptop. Don't install Ubuntu, but use the Live Session (the try Ubuntu option) to see if Ubuntu can "see" all of your hardware. If it does see everything ok, then it indicates a problem with the restore image you used.

Standing by, but I think a clean install from a new source is in order, at a minimum.

2 possibilities...
1) A clean fresh install is required.
2) If re-installing the OS doesn't work, that is you get the black screen on boot up, then your motherboard is not working or one of its components is not available.
If you need hardware, it is much easier and cheaper to buy a new laptop of the entry level at around the $300 mark.

Thanks to everyone for all their help. I got it fixed. I used my sons hard drive from his Acer to make a repair disc. With it I was able to run some more diagnostics and get into command prompt. From there I did a command to fix the boot and the mbr. I rebooted without the CD and it finished installing Windows from the restore and now I have an up and running laptop. I guess I was missing a file or maybe one was corrupted. Not sure. So thank you everyone!

Be sure to scan your entire system with your antivirus software (I recommend Microsoft Security Essentials if you need one) and with MalwareBytes (get from malwarebytes.org). Good luck!
