Solved! Windows 8.1 not recognizing hard drive

I am having trouble after a normal restart of my Asus laptop. The scenario is this; after a normal restart, my computer went into some sort of automatic repair mode which eventually led me to a blue screen and error code 0xc00021a. I have viewed many fix videos and been led to using the command prompt screen. My issue is this, when I type c: into the prompt, I am given this response "The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted" This is extremely frustrating because there was literally nothing wrong with my computer prior to the restart. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

have you tried to go into the BIOS to see if it is detected in there?

Thank you for your response. I cannot get anywhere accept the blue screen and advanced troubleshooting options, can I access the BIOS from this area?

if you go into advanced you will be able to access the bios with the option called "UEFI firmware settings"

I do have a UEFI Firmware Settings button, when I click it, it asks "restart to change UEFI Firmware settings". What exactly will occur if I hit the restart option? I just don't want to do anything that may cause information to potentially be lost if avoidable.

it will restart into your BIOS

every BIOS looks different but it should be on the main page which would be the first thing you will see

then either it is not being detected and the drive has failed or you do not know where to look. that or the drive is fine and your data has become corrupted.

I appreciate your patience and input. I wish I could take a picture to show you what I am seeing. On the main page there is a line item that states "System Information", there is nothing shown on that line.

unfortunately i am not familiar with asus laptops but it should be listed under system information. the last thing i could suggest is run the windows 10 install and you should get to some point where it asks you to choose which drive or partition to install it too. all i am suggesting is to check to see if it lists anything for disks or partitions but do not advance any further then that because then it would start an install. other then that there are other people on this forum that may be able to help

Again, thank you so much for your time. I do have an advanced page in the BIOS that has a SATA Configuration line which shows ahci mode and has a model and serial number. Is this helpful?
