Windows 8 and hdmi cable connection not working

I have a Toshiba satellite with Windows 8. The first time I connected the hdmi cable to the lcd, it worked great not even changing any of the settings of the laptop. HOWEVER, I could not connect again since then! the lcd screen shows no signal and when I tried to change the Windows setting to duplicate or extend the image to the tv, it does not work, a pop up window says that i should change some of the settings though i cannot find what is wrong. i would highly appreciate your help how can i fix the Windows 8 to see screen on my tv as it worked great the first time I did it a couple of days ago and never again. thank you.

So what does the pop windows exactly say? It obviously tells you, what is wrong?
