I have been having booting issues with my Lenovo Ideapad Y510 recently. Sometimes when I turn on the laptop, it stays in the lenovo screen before the sign in page and doesn't load properly. It has been very on and off, but it is very annoying. I have dealt with this in the past by refreshing my PC twice now, and it has thoroughly worked but it always comes back up. From my knowledge of computers, it seems like a hard drive related issue. This was actually the original reason i refreshed my PC because windows 10 caused my hard drive to get partitioned I believe. I have been using an external hard drive to play games and store my personal stuff into, but afaik The OS is loaded from the hard drive. I would really prefer not having to buy a new hard drive as I don't have the best budgetary position for that and I know this should actually be an easy fix. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

There are always 2 suspect when it comes with PC or laptops getting stuck on it's splash screen. First is your HDD failing or is about to fail and seconds is the motherboard itself. The only real way to identify weather it's the HDD or the motherboard is to use a new HDD and if the same problem will persist then it's the motherboard that is faulty already.

If the motherboard is the one that is failing, what can I do to fix it?

Also, are there external solutions that I can use to stop the hard drive from failing in the future if I get it to work? For example, would defragging my C: drive make the system detect and boot the OS better?
