I read that headline as "Real Americans Use the Least Cell Phone Minutes, Says Nielsen Study"

That's either really good satire OR someone is a closet racist :)

60000 people is a decent sample size imo, regardless of the fact that there are millions of cell phone users.

Over 2500 texts for the average teen is pretty high imo. I have only approached the 2500 text mark twice. My average is about 1050 texts/month sent.

These people that text 2200 per month cant have a job right. I mean you would be on your phone 24-7. If I employeed you your butt would be gone in no time.

I've never understood the fascination with "texting". Not only is it more time consuming and limiting than making a phone call, but it generally costs extra per month to use it.

And don't get me started on seeing people with their eyes on their texts and not on the road. Texing while driving should carry the same consequence as DUI/DWI (a bit off topic, but non the less).

if u don't text it means your too old and your obvious generation gap is clear

"African-Americans" "Hispanics" "Asians and Pacific Islanders" and then "WHITE PEOPLE". How about "Caucasians" or "European-Americans" since we started following the technical trend in the beginning of the paragraph.

And if you text too much, you can't spell anything or use proper grammar or sentence structure. You failed in all three cases in one sentence. Wow.

Apparently I text like a teenage girl then even though i'm 33, 2200 texts so far this month with 8 days left on my billing cycle and I've broken 5000/month before, however talk time 2 mins so far this month with my average being like 15-20 a month.

someone needs to get out more

[citation][nom]Xatos[/nom]It's because they're the most bored, and probably have the least going on.[/citation]
Wouldn't having lots of people to talk to mean they have the best chance of having something going on? The ones who text and talk the least seem the most likely to be bored and lonely.

I have some info to back this up, this year i got into 2 accidents well fender benders, the first was a african american teen chatting it up while she was talking, she didn't see me stop at the stop sign!, second was a mid age, 30's american indian (from India), she was also chatting it up on the phone while driving and also didn't see me stop at the stop sign. So far I have not been hit by caucasian females, yet!

Lets get past all the race-based statistics. If we're ever going to live in a a society where color doesn't matter, we should start living in a society we ignore this B.S.

You know what shocks me about these studies is that alot of them are absolutely useless and yet someone funded this BS. I understand that some of this is used for directed marketing but cmon.

Race based statistics can save lives, since many race based statistics are medical in nature. There are real-world differences that involve race and gender, so they shouldn't be ignored just to satisfy an outward appearance of political correctness.

This research is simply raw data, which may or may not be of use in the long run. But studies like this are often a starting point to finding deeper truths. Maybe the results of this study will lead to the understanding of why some people have a more fully developed social network, and therefore simply communicate more within that network. Maybe it will lead to a discovery that the data-gathering techniques were flawed, and there is no real difference. The point is, we cannot stop studying the world around us, particularly ourselves, out of fear of being a labeled racist or sexist.
