World Machine "Generic Malware", false positive or not?

Hello.

I'm new to Tomsguide, and I'm hoping to receive some helpful tips on my dilemma. :cheese:

I've been doing 3D for a while now using different programs like ZBrush and Maya, but as most artists I want more tools to do the time consuming work. In this scenario I've been looking at a program called World Machine that's supposed to build the base environment for your projects.

(Link: World Machine Home Page - Using the free version)

I found out about this program through a YouTube video where a famous artist used this program in his works (link: Youtube Video - Mentioned around 6 min through the video) so I'd like to think it's not a scam (or better said, I dont think it's a scam but my anxiety got the better of me :chaudar: ). My antivirus also tell a different story and report it as a "Generic Malware". (Using F-Secure)

I also scanned the file using "VirusTotal" where 3 anti-viruses reported it as a trojan.

Their website also seem to look reliable since they have a support system and a constantly updated blog, so I'm leaning towards that it's a false positive but I'm wondering if anyone here has used this program and can confirm that it is safe. Also if anyone with more skill than me can look at the file in question and the antivirus reports, I'd feel more safe downloading it through reliable replies than trust a website I've never touched before.

Thank you in advance for any helpful replies :mdr:

I visited the website (www.world-machine.com) but did not download the software.

Noted that they have a Helpdesk function under Support.

I recommend opening a ticket and reporting the problem(s) and virus detections.

Maybe their site was hacked and someone swapped out the program - who knows...?

In any case they should be able to reply and provide some additional information or insight.

They also have their own Forums. There should certainly be some end-users there who can comment and advise.
