Firstly I am torn between getting a new desktop or just buying this laptop?
I am relatively new to pc gaming so I have no idea if a gaming laptop is a good idea, I am considering both options, (Desktop £520 without windows 8.1 with £604.89) (Laptop £525)

You will get better performance with the desktop, If the portability is important to you then the laptop is good since it weighs quite a bit less.

Come on!, that desktop is far more powerful than the laptop for gaming. It has a powerful processor and a very good graphics card when compared to the laptop. The only problem now is that if you have a concern of portability, then the laptop would be the best option-- but definitely, the desktop has the most power and that's what matters most in gaming.
