Who would go to the trouble of pirating this? Any W7 phone is going to come with a legit copy, I seriously doubt any Android or iPhone users are going to want to put W7 on their phone. This isn't like building a PC for a buddy and saving them some money with "Windows XP Pro Corporate Pirate Edition"(tm).

Besides, every Windows operating system ever has been cracked, they really thought they'd beat the hackers on Windows 7, but then the ultra-L337 modified GRUB installs with BIOS-spoofing gave M$ some more resounding pwnage. It looks like they're out of ideas now...

wait will this check if someone has a less than genuine copy of windows 7 running on the pc or is this only for the phone, not like i have one anyway just curious.

Unhackable?
I don't believe such a thing called unhackable even exists.
It is just a matter of time.
BTW: I am gonna stick with Android for a while.

Best regards,

A proud Desire owner with Leedroid 2.2f on it.

Depends on how you look at it. Individuals who just want the phone as is and want it to work won't really be affected because they won't do anything to upset this genuine advantage check.

The individuals who want ultimate control over their phones through the use of custom ROM's etc won't like this as it is extra challenge and proof that the companies are trying to keep us all down.

I'm not bashing either side of this viewpoint, merely stating them.

I personally don't mind this, because as a business MS have a right to do what they can to protect their intellectual property. As a kid, if you brought your ball out to play, would you want the other kids tearing it apart or changing it because they didn't like it in some way? No, you'd probably take it back in or tell them to leave the ball alone and just play with it because its good as it is. In some way, MS are doing the same thing by making sure your phone hasn't been tampered with as to change the WP7 experience from what they originally wanted it to be. By removing Live, Marketplace and Zune functionality, that is the business equivalent of taking the ball back in (albeit a bit hissy-fit like and draconian).

Btw this is just my opinion. I in no way have a God complex and believe my words to be fact. Simply my viewpoint.

Not sure why people have a problem with this.

It's only purpose is to prevent users from installing WP7 onto non-WP7 phones. Makes perfect sense.

If you buy a phone with WP7 then this does not restrict you in the least. It is not the same as buying Windows for PC and wanting to reinstall the same license on different hardware. It just doesn't work that way with phones. Phone OSs are not designed to be transferrable from one device to another.

So many "lulz Android doesn't do this Microsoft sucks" comments. Do people fail to remember how phones like the Droid X lock down if a modified boot-loader is installed?

MS needs to give it up. They flubbed thier attempt and are now out of the running for phone OSs.

Why do they feel they have to do this? What are they afraid of? What possible advantages do they think this provides? Because I can see none...
