[citation][nom]Exodite8[/nom]"It's good for the industry and good for _console_ gamers."Fixed.The rest of us are stuck in DX9-land with the assumption 512Mbyte RAM and a Radeon X1800 is top of the line.Of course, I don't generally play the kind of games that ends up on consoles anyway but it's easy enough to see how the least-common-denominator of dated console hardware negatively impacts advancements in PC gaming.[/citation]
you arnt using your head ...

1. the writer said good for all gamers for the simple fact that an extended console life also means game ahrdware in general will alst longer .

2. it is a known fact in the industry that a new console gen usualy means that the PC gaming market is about to get hit with many titles that will NOT run on yesteryear's PC's . so any time consoles go up pc game requirements tend to go up much quicker as well which bassically makes your 1 year old i7 920 and your 8 gigs of ram and your gf 295 worthless

SO yes consoles lasting longer IS good for ALL gamers

back in late 2002 i got an alienware comp from my mom it had the top of the line on it (it was a 3,900 dollar alienware as my mom stil likes to brag). it ran every game flawlessly up tot eh end of 2005 (the year the 360 came out) it een ran doom 3 and half life 2 smoothly even thoguh they came out in 04 2 years intot eh comps life) but soon into 05-06 i starteed seeing pc games that brought my system to it's knees ( nwn 2 , oblivion , Bf 2142 to anme a few)

you see the thing is whiel teh PC gets inovative with hardware ahead of consoles , the software doesn't actually catch up until a generation of consoles actulaly uses the hardware , twhat this means is you can expect your pc hardware to not pull it's wieght when a console comes out taht utilizes the newer tech. and upgrading yesteryear's pc doesn't always net you good gains. the simple truth is to remain a happy pc gamer you usually have to get an entire new system any time a new set of consoles come out , because more than likely yoru old pc onw handle games that actulay use the tech that was developed on last years video card ( this is same reason why many folks a void "first DX xx " video cards because whenthe software actually puts it to use that card will be dated and it WILL show

so yeah the writer was quite correct instating this as being good for all gamers

[citation][nom]hillarymakesmecry[/nom]Good for gaming? You're an idiot. The games are being held back by the hardware. I'd pay $500 right now for a system that could run TRUE 1080p GTA4 at 60 fps. Or MW2 online with 4 player split screen. The system is dated and old. I'm ready for the next generation.[/citation]

good for gaming is having to buy 2000+ diollars of hard ware every 3-4 years ??? ummm not !!! serioyusly dude thinka bout what you are saying , if youa re a real gamer graphics wont be such an issue most REAL gamers dont care for teh graphics so much , jsut rather or not teh game is enjoyable , and ahving a new game that brings your 2000 dollar dream pc to it's knees is NOT enjoyable i look forward to consoels lasting longer , it also means my comp will last longer as only a tiny select few games wil really stress my hardware .. untill the next gen comes out which of course most games will tehn stress my hardware, so teh longer a console gen last the longer my pc will stil be a great gaming exprience and the longe ri can wait on buyign a new pc i see nothign to loose in this as long as the games are good to play the over all graphics don't bother me

tech advancment is not always a good thing , see my above post. while rich boys may ahve the money for upgrades (or new systems() every 2 years , MOST the gaming community (even pc gmaers) are not rich boys

[citation][nom]az3[/nom]is there any xbox 360 that lasted for 4 years???[/citation]

yep a buddy of mine still has his original launch system , it' has never RROD'ed, had cd ddrive issues or any other "break down" it is still running like new and actually even though mine is a jasper model his only runs slightly hotter than mine which i found odd since his is a much older 360 and most certainly uses the original main board /chips.

One of the reasons technology is being held back by the consoles is because there is little to no return on developing newer technology at a faster rate, thanks is part to a variety of factors (we all know the biggest ones).

[citation][nom]touchdowntexas13[/nom]Imagine that. Developers are trying to reach the broadest audience possible. Hmmmm do you expect anything different? Game devs don't make games to please any certain part of the market. They make games to turn a profit. If you want devs to develop more graphically intensive games, you have to increase the number of high-performance computers in the market. You guys are hopeless. You think game devs are holding back pc gaming by not developing graphically intensive games? The only objective of a developer (or any business) is to make money. Pc gaming is holding itself back by not being the "popular" option among consumers.[/citation]

so how do you explain the 90s? when a group of 4 game devs working for next to nothing could lead to great technical advancements? even tho they were serving an even smaller PC market than exists now? there was less of a market, PCs were MORE expensive, and the games were CHEAPER!? yet they still managed more than any of the giant devs do now!

I DO NOT believe that its just because " oh its harder to improve now, because now is sooo awesome!!" its due to a lack of imagination and/or lots more greed!
