How to Activate a New SIM Card on an AT&T Phone

If you want to use a new SIM in your AT&T mobile phone, you'll have to activate it first. After that you can use it with your phone. To do this you have to make a call to AT&T Customer Service. Here’s how to activate a new SIM on AT&T.


1. First, write down your SIM card serial number, phone number, IMEI number, etc.; you will find the SIM card number on the back of your SIM card. Or you may get them in the receipt of your SIM card purchase.
2. Open the back cover of your phone.

3. Insert the SIM card into your device. To do this you might need to remove the battery - you may find the SIM card slot there.

4. Place the battery & close the back cover.

5. Switch on the cell phone by pressing the power button.
6. If your phone is ready then-
• If you're transferring your number to AT&T, call 866.895.1099 to accept the Terms & Conditions and activate your new SIM card.
• If you're not transferring your phone number to AT&T, to activate your new SIM card, call 800.331.0500. It will connect you to AT&T customer care.
7. You can make the call from another phone if you want.
8. Press the button according to the recorded voice commands. After that you will be connected to a real person.
9. Tell him/her that you need to activate a SIM. Then he/she will ask you the info that you wrote down earlier. Tell them the information and after a few seconds your SIM will be activated.
10. After the completion of the activation process, terminate the call.
