How to Get Your Recalled HP Power Cord Replaced

Hewlett Packard recently launched a recall for certain AC power cords that had been distributed with HP and Compaq laptops. The recall was made because HP determined that certain faulty computer power cords could overheat and cause fires or burns. The defective power cords were included with devices sold between September 2010 and June 2012. If you believe that your power cord is defective, and you purchased your computer between these dates, you could be eligible for a free replacement. Use the steps below to get your cord replaced.

Step 1
On your internet browser, go to h30652.www3.hp.com. This address is the page on HP’s website that is dedicated to the recall. There, you can learn more information about the recall, as well as find out whether or not your power cord is eligible for replacement.

Step 2
Scroll down the page to the “Getting Started” section. You will be instructed to provide HP with your state or country of residence, as well as with your email address so that they can get in touch with you.

Step 3
Unplug your power cord from the wall to avoid any further fire hazard. If the cable is hot, let it cool down.

Step 4
Now, disconnect the power cord from the power adapter box. You should notice a molded letter/number combination on the part of the cord that plugs into the adapter. Defective cords are marked by the combination of “LS-15.”

Step 5
If “LS-15” appears on your cord, HP will ask you to provide your Notebook Product Name, Notebook Serial Number, and the “date code” for your power cord (as well as give instructions on where to find each). Fill out the fields to validate your notebook and confirm whether or not you are eligible for a replacement.

Recap
If HP determines that your power cord is defective, you will be given instructions on how to send it back and have it replaced.
