Windows 8.1 says they require a USB 2.0 port, but it says they will work with any USB port. Is there a way to get them to work with a USB 3.0 port?

I installed Windows 8 on my Lenovo Y580 (it came with the $15 upgrade) and now my USB 3.0 drivers don't work. They acknowledge something plugged in and can charge but don't actually communicate with any devices. The Lenovo forums have been a complete waste of time for help on this. Any ideas...
