"If he wasn't so young, I would say this is a shoe-in for a Darwin award. "

And you are a shoe win for spelling award of the year

Youth is defo a contender for the Darwin award
Dying before having a chance to procreate lies at the heart of the process

[citation][nom]mp562[/nom]This kid is a moron, why would you have your back to the tracks? Think McFly, think.[/citation]

I would guess he was walking down the tracks. He had a 50/50 chance of having his back to the train.

Sad he was so young, but it was a stupid thing to do. I'm tempted to blame his parents to some degree, but not sure it would occur to me to tell my daughter, "Don't walk on the train tracks, especially with your music so loud you can't hear a train coming"

Train horns scare the S#$% outta me, how the heck was his music so loud that he couldn't hear a train? Tragic, yes. Sad, yes. But sometimes I have to wonder.

From the original article that failed to make it to this one. Yam made it seem like the kid was just standing with his back to the train.

---"Witnesses told authorities the boy -- identified as Caesar Muloki, an 8th grader at Hackensack Middle School -- was running alongside the train and suddenly ran in front of it as he attempted to cross the tracks."

seems like it was on purpose... /suicide maybe

as mentioned a train horn you can hear through almost anything - especially THAT close up!!!

+ You can feel the ground rumble when a train comes, loud music or not...

Yeah, looking more like a suicide by the minute, did anyone check the music on the iPod after the accident?
Was there any James Blunt, The Smiths, Joy Division, Nick Cave, Hope Of The States, John Mayer or Justin Beiber? How about Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run? More like Born to Run in front of a train.

To Lamorpa, Marcus states that this could have happened years ago with a walkman, so he's not Apple bashing.
As an aside, I nearly hit a kid on a bike on a narrow country road about 4 weeks ago. I slowed right down, waited for a safe overtaking opportunity, and as I started to speed up to pass he swung across the road in front of me. MP3 player on, NO IDEA that I was there, even though I had been sat behind him for 15-20 seconds. Scared the shit out of him when I hit my horn though. HE could hear my horn, and I'm pretty sure a train horn is louder.

[citation][nom]rajangel[/nom]When I hear that the train sounded the horn. I wonder if the kid may actually have been deaf.[/citation]

Not deaf, just stupid.

Lol. I'm sorry, but at 12 years old it's simply inexcusable. I don't know who this kid was raised by, but it obviously wasn't ninjas.

Just in! The track list from the iPod

Big Train (From Memphis) - Roy Orbison
Catch That Train - America
Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne
Daddy, What's A Train? - John Denver
Hear My Train A Comin' - Jimi Hendrix
Keep This Train A-Rollin' - The Doobie Brothers
Last Train To Clarksville - The Monkees
Long Train Runnin' - The Doobie Brothers
Midnight Train - Steve Miller Band
Midnight Train To Georgia - Gladys Knight And The Pips
Orphan Train - Lee Ann Womack
Stop That Train - Vanilla Ice
The Day We Caught The Train - Ocean Colour Scene

One of my best friends nearly got hit by a train while listening to his mp3 player. And when I say nearly I mean he was just seconds away from death. He was pretty shaken after that.

Although the actions of this young boy was not the smartest (obviously), for people on this blog to say he's a moron, idiot, etc is just wrong. This 12 year old boy is DEAD and people are calling him names, etc. Yes the actions were wrong from what the article says, but we weren't there. How about you show some compasion instead saying how stupid the dead are...Just my thoughts.

Sure tragic, just as tragic as it is to hear about thoose Foxconn workers who dies making thoose gadgets. This sounds like a really stupid guy thoo but no one deserves getting killed - even less so indirectly by their toy!

[citation][nom]rsg22[/nom]What an idiot, you need to be aware of your surroundings regardless. How do you end up with YOUR BACK TO A TRAIN?[/citation]

Darwinism at its finest?
