[citation][nom]theguy82[/nom]Although the actions of this young boy was not the smartest (obviously), for people on this blog to say he's a moron, idiot, etc is just wrong. This 12 year old boy is DEAD and people are calling him names, etc. Yes the actions were wrong from what the article says, but we weren't there. How about you show some compasion instead saying how stupid the dead are...Just my thoughts.[/citation]

Yea he is dead, but thousands die yearly from similar means. Millions of people die every year. I feel sad sometimes for them but I would only feel truly sad for my own family and friends. To say you care about someone you don't even know is total BS. Name calling is not what this article is teaching us about but mainly to avoid stupid shit like this. Though further in the comments you find that it could have probably been a suicide incident. I don't think we should feel sad for just anyone that dies, only when it matters to us should we feel it. Enough of this BS about feeling sad for this child you probably would have never known to begin with.

[citation][nom]back_by_demand[/nom]Yeah, looking more like a suicide by the minute, did anyone check the music on the iPod after the accident? Was there any James Blunt, The Smiths, Joy Division, Nick Cave, Hope Of The States, John Mayer or Justin Beiber? How about Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run? More like Born to Run in front of a train.[/citation]

justin bieber could make anyone jump in front of a train

A train horn can do 120-140 decibels of sound. There is no way the kid could have not herd it. The kid was either too stupid to get off the tracks or wanted to get hit and go down listening to his favorite song.

[citation][nom]icepick314[/nom]what kind of earphone was that kid using???!??!if it was default white Apple earphone, there's absolutely no way it can block the incoming train plus the horn....[/citation]

i dont know why peopel gave you a thumbs down it is a deccent question there are 3 londs of head phones

1. Closed system Cuff head phones (usually used in studio recording applications , they completely enclose your ear , and are very very ahrd to hear any thign around you , the main reason for thier design is to stop sound leaking out of them from being recorded by a sensitive condensor mic. these designes are usually NOT found on head phones made for general audio equipment

2. Ear plug phones , very common design for consumer product becasue of compactability , rather easy to hear sound leaking from them when youa re not the one using them , however the person using them usually can'thear any thign around themselves. very likely these were the kind of phones this kjid had on.

3. standard ear muff design , these are teh most common they just "sit: over your ears , they dont cuff them or insert into them , very easy to hear them when you arnt the user , and the user can usually hear every thing out side of them fairly well ,provided the user is not just totally blasting them. probably the safest design really usually they arn't powerful enough to be loud enough to be a saftey hazard but some brands do have really good speakers in them as far as out put. also these are unpopular today becuase they are much clunkier than the ear plug design. though honestly if i were gonna get an ipod i would get these , saftey first i always.

now for those of you wandering why it is that i know so much about ear phone design , it';s simple really i'm a musician , me and my borther run a home recording studio and we had to elarn all aobut head phone designs when buying head phones for our stupid , becaue the msot common designs (ear bud and ear muff) are no good for recording with sensitive mics. but this has turned into a rather long rant LOL

[citation][nom]Pailin[/nom]seems like it was on purpose... /suicide maybeas mentioned a train horn you can hear through almost anything - especially THAT close up!!!+ You can feel the ground rumble when a train comes, loud music or not...[/citation]

Why do people think it was suicide?

He was running alongside the tracks probably looking straight ahead with music cranked oblivious to anything around him, needed to cross the tracks and probably did so without looking...splat. /whoops

While running you are not going to feel the ground shaking and with music cranking you will not clearly hear normal sounds, even loud sounds can seem distant.

It doesn't matter whether he was running, standing or doing backflips, he should not of been that close to the tracks while distracted, it's an accident waiting to happen.

It might be sad but I usually flick past these stories as they are normally caused by peoples own stupidity and in which case, i have not sympathy for them.

Thumb me down if you like but think about it, if you were in the same position as him, would you of not paid attention knowing you were at or near a train station/crossing and there is a very good possibility that a TRAIN could come along at any second placing you in danger? let alone needing to cross the tracks with music thumping...stoopid.

Last year, I had a boy roughly this age while talking on his cell-phone step right out into traffic at a traffic-light-controlled intersection when the lights were clearly against him. When I beeped because he was stepping into traffic flow, he flipped me the bird. If he had stepped out just a few seconds later, I doubt I would have had the time to stop.

Just like with texting while driving or cell-phone use while driving, sooner or later use of such devices in dangerous scenarios will be banned by law; however, people will still do it because they think they can.

It is unfortunate that this kid got killed, however, it is far more important to pay attention to your surroundings.

IQ test before purchasing any device -- but that would cut into 75% of Apple's profit. But it's ok, we have lawyers, someone will get sued and as a result our choices and freedoms continue to be taken away in the name of the stupid and unaware ... isn't that why we have DRM?

Didn't someone successfully sue Apple claiming the iPod made them go deaf? As a result Apple now have a "volume restriction" control for everyone.

But people get killed all the time by accident, on purpose, and or just being incredibly stupid. Why it had to be mentioned the boy had an iPod on is beyond me? More taunting for an Apple response I guess ... there is nothing low enough for you to dig when it comes to Apple. Good job Tom's ... ads ads ads ads, must generate hits, ads ads ads ... more hits more hits.

All things fall into parenting; some of us take for granted and never think that far ahead. We can't just give a kid something thinking that all is well. It’s not walkman, iPod or electronic game toy that kills. We can tell a kid as much as we can to be careful but we need to make sure they’re actually prepared and doing it. I just bought 5 Klipsch S2m last week thinking of giving to people I love… then I realize what would be the effect if they’re not aware of their surroundings because of the headset feature of isolating nature sound drastically. It makes me worried… I still have them and am using one right now.

I have a nephew who plays video games until he’s eyes hurt. He’s only 8 and in need of glasses when he turned 7. I’ve talked to my sister, my brother in-law and my nephew but I can only do so much without intruding. So where did we fall short. The kid will be to blame when he gets older but up until then it’s up to us adult. We have to be responsible and aware of the consequence of everything we teach and gave.

I can see how many think he’s an idiot, and others would say be kind. So what do I think about this article? - "It’s a lesson learn".

Doesn't sound that extreme to me. Come to India,on average 7-10 people die every day getting run over by trains. And thats just in the city of Bombay.
Then there are Idiots who always drive with cell phone in their hands (status symbol if you drive while talking on one)..

An almost similar accident happened in the suburb where I live. The kid was crossing the tracks (illegal). Even though people called out to him and the driver honked he couldnt listen to them. eventually he got run over... they "did recover his earphones though"...... he wasn't using an ipod (ppl who can afford them dont travel in trains here!!)

When I go walking in the morning, I leave one earbud out and keep the volume down. I'm just walking around a lake and don't have to cross the street.
