2.1 + Active Subwoofer. Possible?

I bought myself a 2.1 system for my pc not long ago and I wasn't happy enough with the subwoofer, so I started searching for another one. So now I have a question: could I somehow plug into my system(7.1 audio and an SPDIF outlet) 2 RCA cables from a subwoofer and have them work in unison with my 2.1 system? Is there some sort of cable(like RCA to SPDIF or something) I could get?
