So I have a laptop that only has one hdmi port and 2 monitors, one monitor has only vga and the other has vga and dvi ports. I would like to have a dual monitor set up, so what is the best way to connect both?

Solution
If you use a splitter, you'll just duplicate the same view on both monitors. That defeats the whole purpose of having 2 monitors. You'll have to buy a docking station, if you want to extend the displays, i.e. have Excel open on monitor1 and Chrome browser open on monitor2, for instance.
You'll need a docking station to be able to use 2 monitors with the laptop. Take a look at these and see if one will meet your needs: https://www.startech.com/Cards-Adapters/Laptop-docking-stations/

thanks for the reply, but do you think it would work if I get a hdmi to vga cord for one monitor and hdmi to dvi cord for the other and hook those up to a hdmi splitter?
