You know that this means if 24 major companies combined together can't beat Apple... We're all up a creek.

[citation][nom]Parsian[/nom]Finally an END to Apple's Monopoly?[/citation]
I can't believe I read crap like this. How is it a monopoly? There are hundreds of cellphones to choose from. No one forces you to buy an iPhone or buy apps for it. That's like saying Microsoft has a monopoly on Xbox Live. Or Steam for that matter.

Maybe I am wrong but why is it that an American company has a lock on a good product & that product is kicking the shit out competition. So the only way the competition can out do Apple is to gang up on Apple. My question is why are Americans supporting this, look I am all for good competition it makes products better & cheaper. My problem is with the Asian companies, they are not American & do not support Americans. They look at us as a cash cow & that’s all. What happens if we go bankrupt, what happens if we go to war with China? Who will build our war material? Where will we get our tech? We are losing our edge because we do not support America companies in America & stop supporting the Asian economy. American companies pay taxes, they employee our people & give us the edge we need to continue capitalism/freedom around the World. Will China continue capitalism/freedom or will it enslave us? The Jap & Chi-Coms will buy a product over an American product even if the American product is better, why because they what their country to be the best, we should not put up with this. Again why don’t we support American companies & boycott any company that does not support competition on an equal playing field? You have to remember just 60years ago the Jap’s were enslaving our people to build their planes & ships to fight us in WWII & we are just dumb enough to think it could not ever happen again. We need to support American companies like Intel, Motorola, HP, IBM, GE, RCA (what happen to RCA, they change the world) & a lot more or we will all be unemployed.

[citation][nom]brendano257[/nom]I find it hard to see the compatibility for the store with such a wide range of devices and companies.I can go into Sprint's app store, but just about anything interesting I click is "unavailable for your phone" I think this new app store would be a disappointment for most.[/citation]

Agreed, but if it is possible for all 24 companies to get together and create phones that are all compatible with the software, I can see this as being a bit more than a minor problem for Apple :)

[citation][nom]aracheb[/nom]i also agree with you.. java is the answer, java was designed to be able to run in multiples totally different environment without any change to the code... IT inst that difficult[/citation]

Dudes, if you're smart you try to expand gcc to be able to compile java to native code!! Best of both worlds.
And while you're at it write some test cases and stuff for the memory management because. If it has bugs FIX IT!
The carriers only need to establish some standards actually.
A decent standardized mobile Linux API stack with also stuff like standardized packaging systems and formats (rpm5 anyone) while providing decent SDK's for developers.
