The title says it all my fiance is looking to buy a laptop for Sims 3, all Eps and Sims 4 when it comes out that can play medium to high settings.
I have tried to talk her into a desktop but she likes to have it something for school and also her gaming.
Links are appreciated :)

Solution
I would get the HP Pavilion 17z-e100 for $420 and customize it to upgrade to the A6-5200 (2.0GHz) + Radeon HD 8670m graphics chip for $95. That pushes it just above $500, but the A4-5000 is only a 1.5GHz processor so she would feel the need to buy a new laptop sooner rather than later. The Radeon HD 8670m should allow her to play Sims 4 without any issues on high settings. Relying on the integrated graphics core of either the A4 or A6 for games will probably mean she will also want to replace the laptop sooner rather than later... perhaps much sooner.

She can also choose the color.
