If a hard drive is required, then I suppose there should be something like "An HD is required in order to play online co-op mode" written on the box

What is Halo without multiplayer?!

This would also apply to all the older arcade models wouldn't it?

You gotta wonder, since Bungie put this specific error message in the game, they obviously knew about it before launch, did they purposely neglect to inform anyone for fear of lower review scores/preorders?

What's really funny is that in Europe the hard drive for the new slim can't even be purchased separately, but there were bundles that included the game with the 4GB console.

Not sure how this slips by...You have maybe 15 total different Xbox's to test (all possible hardware configurations) and this was not picked up in beta testing??? Wow Microsoft good job.

i'm really surprised that Microsoft just didn't include a 20gb hard drive for their base model slim. Then again, it's Microsoft we are talking about.

Having seen how things that are "WHQL" certified can fall apart, this does not come as a surprise.

Even less reason to bother with the overhype and ultra-milked monotony?

It costs a basic amount to make a brand new hard drive in the first place, since MS wants to have a proper supply chain, they need a drive that is new, being still made, and that they can still get for a good while.

20gb drives haven't been made in ages. You might see ads for them online for cheap, but they'd have to buy new ones. The smallest might be around 80-160gb so you might average a cost ~$40 more. They used to be selling the consoles at a loss, $40 more is a bit harder to justify.

Well what do you think it's costing Microsoft to put in 4GB internal storage untis on their basic slim model then. Clearly 4gb is not enough. Even if 20gb hard drives aren't being mass produced to the public anymore Microsoft has corp ties to hard drive vendors that could produce 20gb hard drives pacifically for them like they have been doing with the other vendors with the Xbox hardware for many years now. 20gb would be good enough for not only basic storage but at the same time wouldn't cost anymore then putting in a 4gb internal storage unit like they are doing now.

What an unbelievable oversight. They couldn't be bothered to at least test the game with even one 4GB model? Who the heck is running their Quality Control department? And why even bother making a 4GB model in 2010? 2000-anything for that matter. Even remote storage online through MS provided servers could be an option, for people who originally didn't want/think they needed more than 4GB.

So when Microsoft calls Seagate and says "We would like to place an order for 40 million 20GB HDD's" do you think Seagate told them "Sorry, we don't make that capacity anymore." Just because HDD manufacturers aren't selling at capacities that low doesn't mean they can't make them at capacities that low. I bet MS gets them for outrageously cheap.

"but offered no inclination as to how long it would be before it's fixed."

No. The word you're looking for is "inkling." Inclination means something else completely.

[citation][nom]simple11[/nom]Wait I am lost, what is the 4GB crap? 4 GB of HDD space??[/citation]

There is a version of the slim console that has 4 gigs of internal flash memory.
