5.1 to headphone jack?

My dad has this old set of Klipsch computer speakers that he is bound and determined to get some use out of. It's a 5.1 system with a powered sub, and the three outputs (I think front, rear, and sub) used to plug into our sound card on our old PC. He wants to find a way that he can play music from his phone through those speakers. I've found "converters" from China, but all of them have terrible reviews and look like a huge waste of money. Can someone help me know if this is a wild goose chase, or otherwise help me lay it to rest?

Bump. Can anyone help with this? Trying to figure out if I can make a gift of the solution or should invest in an easier setup.
