As I do a lot of walking/running about I am not interested/confident in a HDD based unit & I dont have any Minidisc facilities so to me Flash seems the way to go... (note, needs to fit into my back pocket of me jeans/jacket pocket)

Current choices in the UK;
Creative MuVo2 4Gb (if the microHDD is shockproof) (£230GBP)
Creative Muvo Squared 1.5GB (if the microHDD is shockproof) (£165GBP)
Creative MuVo2 Xtrainer 512MB (£170GBP)
MPIO Fl100 512MB (£240GBP)
IRiver IFP195TC 512MB (£225GBP)
IRiver iFP-395T 512MB (£240GBP)

Trust me I know what I'm doing... ooops, grab the cat...

i don't understand what you mean by not ahving minidisc facilitys.

minidisc players record themselves they are like a MD-RW drive in each unit.

they plug into the computer via a USB cord, or into a streo or dvd player via an optical SPDIF cable. they can record live music, speech etc... and some can even record from the radio.

www.minidisco.com is where i buy my stuff from. they have a MD player with NetMD capabilitys for $99 USD. i paid about $350 for mine over 2 years ago and it has AM/FM radio.

in that time i have skipped the music 2 times. the way MD does skip proof technology is this. it reads the disc for 2 seconds and loads the info into memory then shuts the disc down for 120 seconds in my case (so it means you have 120 seconds where it will not skip at all) however if you jolt it at the exact same time that the memory is running out and the disc is spinning up you can skip it.

90 hours battery life on 1x AA NiMH rechargable battery.

an MD player is bigger and heavier than a flash player but not by much.

I haven't had any experience with any of the players but it seems I have the same requirements for an mp3 player as you and I am also considering these players:

iAudio 4 128Mb, 256Mb, 512Mb or 1024Mb (Black or silver)
http://eng.iaudio.com/zeroboard/product_i4_feature.php?bmenu=p&id=cw4001

Digital Square PA40 Zillion 128Mb, 256Mb, 512Mb
http://www.digital-square.com/_eng/_products/sub_products_pa40.php

The iAudio is pretty new and will hopefully be available within the next 1-2 months in europe but the PA40 should be available already!

I'm looking forward to the release of the iAudio 4 since this is the best alternative right now - IMO!

Regards, Tommy Ipsen

PS: Sorry for not narrowing your choices down...
