Not having 3d is a huge selling point for me. Yet another gimmick i dont want to pay for until it can live up to tis name... being 3d. (still waiting for a 3d anything to come out)

I am still getting a 3DS, taking in consideration we are only getting this one in 1 year at least 😉

Plus, i do care about 3D, something different.
i don't see handheld gaming as console gaming, Sony does, and i don't give a shit about that, if i want a console like experience then i will just sit my butt and play in a big TV screen, period.

Of course, first everyone will criticize a new technology, it has always been like that.

The Wii "was" cheap, the DS "was" cheap...

But i still see the PSP2 as a potential next handheld console, but taking in consideration the game's price i should get a few games like call of duty...etc...that in 1 year, when i have my 3DS as a main handheld console, and i will not leave it because it makes my style, its a personal decision

This opinion piece flat out sucks. I dont know a single person that gives a rats ass about 3d.

I would buy the psp 2 BECAUSE it does not have 3d. I wont buy the 3ds because of 3d and it is a freaking kiddie toy with a bunch of crap kiddie games (my ds was and until proven wrong by nintendo I dont expect it to change) .

3D is not a frikin gimmick. It doesn't require you to wave your arm around like the wiimote did or do anything that requires extra effort. It will undoubtedly ENHANCE your experience not detract from it. Saying that 3D is the reason for buying the PSP2 instead is a weak bullshit argument. The DS was and the 3DS is projected towards all ages and SSF4 and Ocarina of Time is obviously not restricted to 6 year olds as you retarded PSP fanboys proclaim.

3D has a lot of practicality to it. The perception of depth, for instance, can train a person's eye to perceive depth of field much more than a flat screen. For physical training purposes, simulation games could actually help some instances of hand-eye coordination. Now that's the first point.

The second point has to do with immersion. Like one developer said, imagine your character is looking down from atop a cliff. The player will be able to much more accurately perceive how far down that cliff really is. Now, if that isn't enhancing the game, then I don't know what is. Of course, it's not going to improve the story, but it will, most definitely, affect gameplay in a good way.

People saying 3D is a fad is like the old days when people said color movies was a fad, or talkies was a fad, or stereo sound was a fad, or surround sound was a fad. 3D will become standard at some point. Those of you who think otherwise are simply ignorant.

3d won't do too well on the 3ds until the secodn revision... the viewing angles are atrocious, and it brings down the battery life like a hammer

the oled screen on the psp was a good choice... great viewing angles, and it lets the battery live longer with great clarity and brightness... im happy with that, no gimmicks there. just quality

960x544 screen still could be converted to a 480x544 3D gaming console.
It'd still be good enough resolution for most games, seeing that the majority of the CD-r fitting movies encoded on the internet are around that resolution also (say 512x480, or 512x320 or so..).

[citation][nom]aznguy0028[/nom]Well said. I'm 25 as well and have loved all the franchises nintendo brought. I'll be waiting for the 3DS in more colors and will probably pick one up when I see more selection in games I like. Nintendo is the biggest player in the handheld market, and their track record is proven with great games/innovation. 3D does seem gimmickly to me atm, but who knows, maybe it'll really be something awesome when the 3ds arrives. Even then, if you don't like, you can always turn it off. Props to Sony if they can turn a profit on this thing, I wouldn't shell out $ for it though. 250$ on the 3Ds is pushing it for me, this will certainly cost more.[/citation]
It'll be quite nice if Nintendo could bring backwards compatibility with the older games like GB, GBC and GBA casettes.

So before these people said 3D will be a huge failure. Now that the PSP2 won't have it, they're saying it may not be good enough? You can never understand these journalists...

Hardcore gamers go for PSP than DS...
But for NGP and 3DS... It's like what is written in this article... Depends on the games... It's what hardcore gamers did... the battle will be for Zelda, Mario, Tekken, God of War, etc... Well Zelda fans will go for 3DS for sure... for sure?... well personally I switched. After I hear there will be Monster Hunter on NGP I definitely will go for it...

I for one am quite happy that this device doesn't support 3D. I rather not pay premium (already pricy without 3d) for a nauseating addon. If you want 3D on a handheld, get the 3DS. Simple in my eyes.

Pretty sure they don't use gyroscopes? They use accelerometers right?

To use a gymble gyroscope would be useless, taking space and waiting for the center weight to get to a suitable RPM...and laser ring gyro's are much too expensive.

I may be wrong....

There is so much debate about 3D and there are those who are for it and those who are against it. However, there is a middle ground that recognizes that 3D, if used properly, can create an enjoyable and unique experience but that it shouldn't be used in every single application.

So...for game systems like the PSP2, Sony may have decided that 3D isn't the best thing for mobile gaming, at least for now. In the future though, 3D will be involved in many applications/games/movies/etc but it will be just part of an integrated experience and not all of the time.

Unfortunately for now, 3D technology is a bandwagon that everyone seems to be jumping on and hyping up to such an extent that so much of 3D material just becomes marketing junk.

Some people are saying that Nintendo has brought something new to the hand held market with 3D. Yeah, that new thing they brought is the biggest gimmick ever. Let alone the fact that children under 6 can't play it for the sake of their own eyes. When you're playing on a bus or train or wherever, I have a feeling the 3D might make you feel a little bit sick, because it does that to me when I'm sat still in the cinema.

Sony doesn't have to worry about 3D, just make sure that alongside the core games to attract the hardcore people like myself, they get their casual offering really strong too so as to attract the rest of the market.

The device looks really nice and i will be prepared to carry it around alongside my smartphone to get some dedicated gaming action in.
