3D is so overrated these days. Developers focus on effects and making it look good for 3D but many games lack a good story and nice gameplay.

This may be the last portable console that will be 2D

Nintendo as usual goes for the quirky features, Sony caters to the traditional gamer. Nintendo may sell millions of these to "non-hardcore" crowd, but Sony still knows that there is still a market for the traditional gamers.

[citation][nom]darkchazz[/nom]kids will get the 3DS to play rehashed versions of mario and pokemon , fail if you ask me.[/citation]
Guess I'm a 25 year-old kid who has always wanted to play games like pilot wings and fucking star fox in 3-D.
I really am interested in this piece of tech, but the 3DS seems to be a bit more fun for me. I simply don't look at a handheld as an extension of a console. Sony does. If it works for them, fine. The problem is that, in the past, it hasn't. I'm not ready to drop a butt load of cash on a device that's based on a failed philosophy.
I have to hand it to them, though. I really didn't think we were this close to seeing true quad-core cpu's in a handheld.

I happen to like 3D as long as it's done right. Glasses-free 3D simply isn't there yet for televisions, and the jury is still out on the 3DS. Active shutter glasses was always, and always will be, a bad idea. Passive 3D, which was pushed at CES by LG, Vizio and Toshiba, is he best bet for 3D in the home until glasses-free is truly ready for consumers.

LOL @ the people saying Apple doesn't do real video games. WHO CARES, they are making squillions of dollars from, guess what? VIDEO GAMES!!!! and some of them are fun, isn't that what gaming is all about? having fun? not to mention all the stupid apps. That's why Sony is hooking up with Goolge Android to bring all that cheap content over, plus you will have good quality content from the PSN store, it's win win.

If you saw the PSP2 demo Monster Hunter and know that M.H just recently sold like 2 million in i'ts first week in Japan, then the PSP2 should sell at least a million units in its first week in Japan alone. The 3DS will be huge no matter what, Ninty have very clever marketing campaigns too boot as well.

Looking at the new PSP... heck yes it is good enough. I AM going to get one. That thing is everything I could want in a handheld. I never bought a DS or a PSP. I played quite a few, but I am glad I never bought one. This though, the PSP 2, I will buy it and love it.

3D is kind of gimmicky to me. I don't like it, and I am not all that impressed thus far.

Well said. I'm 25 as well and have loved all the franchises nintendo brought. I'll be waiting for the 3DS in more colors and will probably pick one up when I see more selection in games I like. Nintendo is the biggest player in the handheld market, and their track record is proven with great games/innovation. 3D does seem gimmickly to me atm, but who knows, maybe it'll really be something awesome when the 3ds arrives. Even then, if you don't like, you can always turn it off. Props to Sony if they can turn a profit on this thing, I wouldn't shell out $ for it though. 250$ on the 3Ds is pushing it for me, this will certainly cost more.

Wow. seriously you guys are idiots. Im not going to pay $400 + for a sony device that will get minimal support + content from game developers. The NGP will obviously fail in sales as its coming out in the end of this year. By then, the 3DS will have sold at least 3-4 million units and NGP will be old new and overpriced. Developing anything for that console is a waste of time and money. I'm guessing that there will be like 10 games out for that piece of shit when it finally does come out. And you guys don't obviously understand Nintendo's great game content and the joy of 3D on a handheld as you probably have played PSP your whole lives.

I don't care about sales. You might as well compare sales of a Honda Civic to a BMW 7 series. Just because you can't afford the higher-end or it sells worse because it is expensive doesn't make it worse. Sony builds PlayStation products with 10-YEAR life cycles. The PS3 could drop to $199 by the time the 3DS is released. So which would you rather have? A more expensive handheld like a 3DS or PS3 that offers far more things and an already established library? PS1 and PS2 each lasted 10+ years. PS2 was the best selling console in 2007-2008 and is still being supported. Its software didn't peak until 2005. PSP could easily drop to $99 and capture the budget conscious families by the time NGP is released. 3D is gimmicky just like that stupid fad Wii created with motion controls. I like the Wii, but I feel duped getting it on launch day when it drew no interest for me after three months of having it. No serious gamer plays the Wii anymore. Rather play the big boy systems with big boy games. I am a traditional gamer that wants to sit and relax to play a game. Don't need to get up and wag a stick in front of a screen. I could watch Skinamax for that already. I just hope 3D gaming doesn't catch on like motion controlling does. It is such a superficial fad that needs to end soon. Its novelty will wear off real quick and probably why 3D has never really succeeded for almost 60 years in movies. A 3D effect can never replace great storytelling.

[citation][nom]dragonfang18[/nom]Sounds like sony doesnt want me to get a headache from 3d...[/citation]
after everything this company has done(rootkit cd's, spyware on vaio pc's,suing over vhs,and the latest court deal with ps3) do you really think they care about the end user???? $ony probably feels that they have put enough effort into the product to release it. I'm done with these guys till they are a little more customer receptive.

$250 is only 50 more than the original DS's asking price, saying you will not buy it because of that is strange, especially since the PSP 2 will be greatly more expensive (the first PSP was $400 on release forget not!) Both consoles prices will surely drop soon after release, in fact the PSP will most likely become cheaper due to the fact it will bomb out. I have doubts in Sony's ability to make good consoles. I sold my PSP for a DS, simply because the games on the PSP bored me ****les. I'm no Nintendo fanboy, nor am I some young child, I feel that Nintendo has always had the better games and consoles. The sales prove it, if nothing else.
