Hi,

I have 5-6 year old Acer Aspire 5745G laptop with exactly what it was supplied with except the battery and adapter. From past few months I have been having issue with slowness, hang etc. There is noise from fan, probably heating issue too which means cleaning is required.

However, I have already purchased a 250GB Samsung EVO 850 SSD to be used in the laptop. I also want to upgrade the 2x2GB (total 4GB) RAM to 2x4GB (total 8GB) RAM. Here's my laptop specs from CPU-Z. http://valid.x86.fr/khd5xh

I am having few confusions.

1. According to http://ark.intel.com/products/43537/Intel-Core-i5-430M-Processor-3M-Cache-2_26-GHz my laptop can only have maximum of 8GB RAM of DDR3 800/1066. But according to CPU-Z info I already have DDR3-1337. I mean it says 1066 MHz but I have 1337 MHz. So, I am confused which "best" RAM should I purchase? Can I buy DDR4 if not, DDR3 1666/1800/2133 MHz?

2. I wanted to install Windows 10 on my laptop. Currently it has Windows 7. Let me know if installing windows 10, my laptop would still work as fast than current Windows 7. Also, I believe I have first generation of i5-430M processor.

3. Also, with those changes (SSD & 8GB RAM) will I see some good speed?

4. Are there other low-budget changes that I can make to make this laptop more fast and workable in 2016 & 2017.

I will appreciate your help on this regard.

Thank you!

Responses in order:
1. The stick currently in your system might be 1333MHz, but your laptop is only capable of running them at 1066MHz. DDR3 1333MHz/1600MHz sticks should work. The system will just run them at the slower speed.
2. Windows 10 operates quicker than what Windows 7 does, so good choice.
3. Again, good idea. You will not believe what a difference those 2 changes will make to your system. It will be quicker than new.
4. Nope, the additional RAM and a SSD drive are all that you would be able to change on that laptop.

Buy those parts, install Windows 10 and you will not look back.

@Petrossa Unfortunately, this (2*4GB DDR3 1600Mhz) didn't work - http://www.amazon.in/Transcend-DDR3-1600-PC3-12800-TS512MSK64V6H-Laptop/dp/B016B82ZVQ/

Any help on what should I buy for this. Have already bought Samsung 850 EVO SSD & Installed Windows 10. But, I don't feel much improvement in speed/performance. Maybe, since it is just the windows 10 (without any software installation) it is running little fast than win7 but once I install anti-virus and other software, it won't be any good. :(

Also, CPU & SSD Disk usage touches 100% in most of the basic work. Will fan cleaning or changing fan, cleaning laptop will be a good idea?
