hi, i have an acer aspire v3-551 laptop, windows 8.1, 64 bit. my keyboard characters stopped working when i tried to install the elantech touchpad driver from the acer website. I tried a system restore to a previous point (multiple times to multiple points) but kept getting an error code 19 (system could not be restored msg...). I am able to access the bios menus by pressing f2, and can use the arrow keys in the bios menus, so that tells me its not a hardware connection issue. Any help you can offer would be great! thanks in advance

Have you tried going into safemode? I'm told if you enter BIOS by hitting F2 at boot and enable Hard Disk Recovery under the Advanced tab you can restore your laptop to factory . If you can boot up into Windows you can go to device manager in control panel disable of remove the driver that is causing the keyboard error.that was loaded Goggle booting in to safe mode.
Have you tried pressing F5, F8 or F10 see if you can find an option to make a boot disk

thanks for the idea, but it didn't work. I looked at the drivers again and tried to update them when i realized the drivers (there's two installed for my keyboard) both are the HID keyboard drivers for window 7, 32 bit system - I have windows 8.1 64bit system and can't find the correct drivers on the acer website. I can't create a system restore disk if the keyboard drivers are not working can I?

Your mouse works OK?

If the software fixes don't work then try -

Plugging is a usb keyboard

If on warranty, take it back

If not then remove the covers and check that the ribbon cable(s) from the motherboard to the keyboard is/are plugged in properly

I had the same thing on my Acer Switch 10(W10 32B), after Updating the Bios and all Drivers additional deinstalling the Logitec Software I found out that the problems a keystroke internal software that stops the Keyboard. So look on the taskbar in the hidden icons and search for something like stopwatch or a keyboard klick on it, uncheck the checkbox and approve...
