I have an Acer VN7-592G-71JF on Win10 64bit.

My right fan always seemed to have had a temper - it would randomly go to full speed for a second and then back to normal, even when windows was completely idle.

A few days ago, however, this started to occur not only more regularly, but at some point it'll get stuck in full speed mode and not return to normal until I put the notebook to sleep and wake it back up.

Neither CPU/memory load, nor temps are the reason - both are usually very low in office work.
No CPU core is above 3% or 42°C. Here's Open Hardware Monitor: http://imgur.com/a/kQ8Nm

When you google this issue, you mostly find answers saying that the fan is dirty or broken - but that would be implying that it's not cooling properly and therefore needs to work overtime, no? That's clearly not the case here, since the temps are fine.

Could it rather be a software issue?

Many thanks in advance!

A fan can be going without it leading to an overheating issue right away. Happened to me last year. It just started making crazy loud noise and running way higher than it should. Yet the temps weren't going up.

I would suggest looking into replacing both the fan, and the thermal paste when the fan is changed out, and that should resolve your problem.
