hi my wifes laptop has turned off when i turned it back on it shows the acer logo then the screen gose black with just a cursor at top left off the screen cannot get into bios as brought on ebay and never got the password please help

Reseat the hard drive and then do a clean setup of Windows using a disk if you can't get to the restore partition. Without a BIOS password you will be very limited, contact whoever sold you the thing and get the password.
