Adding a new drive

I have a Tivo2 (manufactured by TIVO itself, it appears) with "80 hours" on
it. What physical sized drive is that? How big of a drive can I add in
place of it? Do I have to "hack" the box? Am I breaking Tivo rules?

I know that "80 hours" is only for lowest quality. I presume that, if I
double ( or triple) the size of the drive, then I'll get 160 hours of
"lowest quality"?

Any reference to a "how to " or "where to buy" site would also be
appreciated.

80 Gigs.

You can replace it with 2 120 Gig Drives.

Western Digital Hard Drives are deemed too noisy by many folks for use
in a TiVo.

There are roughly 80 hours of low quality recording on an 80 gb drive.
(slightly more, actually). Depending on what sw version your tivo is
running, you may or may not be limited to 137 gb of usable space. For sw
versions 5.2 and 7.1 you can go higher than 137 gb, I've read something
about a limit of 300 gb per drive. Read about lba48. You do not have to
hack the box, but you do need to remove your original drive and make a
backup. Read up on the hinsdale guide, it is very clear about going about
this process. Many people put larger drives in their tivos, there are
companies who sell them with tivo images on them already.

I like seagate drives, they seem quiet and run cool. As for where to buy,
the web is loaded with sites selling hard drives, often for less than $50
after rebate for a 120 or 160 gb. Check all the big guys, Best Buy,
Outpost.com, compusa, etc. Dealdatabase forum has a thread on good buys. I
got a seagate 160 for $50 from Fry's Outpost.com.
