Hi!
I want to install a Samsung 850 250gb ssd to Asus n550jx-ds71t that has a 1tb hdd already on it. My goal is to install the ssd where the hdd is and move the hdd to the optical drive. I would use the ssd soely for the os and the hdd for extra storage space. Since the os was already installed when i got it, can i move the os files over from the hdd to the ssd after i made the swap or should i back up the os files to the ssd first?

Hey there, soccerfan7777!

I believe this tutorial from the TH community would be very helpful in explaining how exactly to proceed with the installation of the SSD in your primary storage bay and moving the HDD in your optical bay: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ssd-laptop-upgrade-optical-bay,3102.html

You should keep in mind that a clean install of Windows is recommended when adding and moving the operating system but if you don't the Windows Installation media, cloning is the next best thing. :)
Usually the SSDs come with a migrating/cloning utility but there are a lot of third-party tools out there as well. Here's another tutorial you can use for the migration of the OS from your HDD to the SSD: http://lifehacker.com/5837543/how-to-migrate-to-a-solid-state-drive-without-reinstalling-windows

Hope these help. Good luck!
