Alienware M17x R4 should I go for it?

I want to buy an Alienware m17x r4 with specs:
4th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-4700MQ processor (6MB Cache, up to 3.4GHz w/ Intel® Turbo Boost)

16GB Dual Channel DDR3L at 1600MHz (4x4GB)

NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 880M graphics with 8GB total GDDR5

8-cell Lithium Ion (86 wHr)

With a coolermaster XL laptop cooling pad for cooling.
But the big question is that i have heard people getting overheating problems that crash the system even after using the cooler. I am totally confused. Please help.

Why stay with the laptop R4? I found the Aurora R4 to be way more worth it per dollar, it's a powerful rig and got good reviews (http/reviews.mysteryblock.com/alienware-aurora-r4-review/).

You'd be better off long term with a desktop, or even the X51 is good. It has multiple price ranges too.

I have a PC and its quite powerful its got an i7 3930k 8gbs of corsair vengence rams a good cooling setup and an r9 280x direct CUII but i am going to college and i can't take my pc along so a laptop is my only alternative
