If you haven't noticed lately on the TV market, beginning in January
2005, all Toshiba CRT tube televisions, regardless of what price and
features, have been outsourced and are now made by Orion, the maker of
the low-cost Broksonic, Durabrand, some Insignia, Memorex, Orion, and
Sansui brands. Toshiba no longer manufactures any cathode ray tube
televisions. Toshiba has been doing production business with Orion
since 2001. I wonder if Orion is any good in terms of quality. Will
Orion provide welll-made TVs for Toshiba.

It sounds like Orion is a job shop. They are probably capable of making
any level of quality that their clients are willing to train and supply
them to. If Toshiba sets the QA bar high and enforces its requirements,
then the sets with Toshiba's brand on them shouldn't be any worse than
Toshiba wants them to be.

I have a friend who was a buyer for a very well know corporation. They
needed to order replacement bulbs for their older copiers to service their
loyal customer base who owned these very expensive products. The bulb vender
moved production to Mexico and the replacement bulb it produced there did
not meet spec. No other bulb vender was interested in putting in a bid and
this major bulb vender had no interest in working to bring the bulb back to
the same level of performance they had achieved in their US factory. Thus
the supply of these bulb has been cut off. I hope Toshiba has better luck.
