Amazon Fire TV and sound system

When I use the Amazon Prime Video app on my spectrum tv service, I get no audio output from the surround system speakers. Can I plug a Fire TV box directly into an HDMI slot on the sound system receiver to get the Prime Video sound?

Is your "sound system" full-blown AVR (Audio-Video Receiver), with HDMI inputs and outputs? If so - you'll get much better results that way.

You can try that. Or you need the HDMI Converter with audio extractor to get audio from the sound system receiver.

Per the conversation preceeding my reply. I have Wi-Fi, no cable & 2010 Sanyo HDTV - not "smart" I received fire stick & got picture but no sound.I connected to my HDMI (DVI ) port 1.My Sanyo I got 2010.
On my TV itself it said DVI plug into video 3. The Amazon tech just sending me another stick as his interface troubleshooting wasn't effective. Do you think I may actually need what you described above ? I must admit I'm not tech savvy & I see old school plug in audio colors under video 3 input but nothing to plug into...lol.. I have to make this work as I just can't afford the skyrocketing cost of cable & going nuts. Thx for your time.
