I have an lg tv and a sony amp. All my hardware runs through the amp (cablebox, bluray, chromecast) and then through an hdmi to the tv.

Recently the tv has been displaying an "invalid format" error message and no video. The audio works however.

If i connect the components directly into the tv (bypass the amp) everything works.

Since the amp seeing have not been touched, in inclined to think the amp needs to be replaced. Am i missing something simple?

Solution
Before replacing the receiver you should try a different HDMI cable from the receiver to the TV. Also try a different HDMI input on the TV. You should also try changing any video processor settings in the receiver.
Another option that would be less expensive is to use an HDMI switcher with audio extractor.

It would compromise the audio quality of the bluray player but not the other sources.
