Analog vs. USB Headset

So what's the difference between the two?
i've heard that sometimes there might be some interference with the 3.5 cord headset
while the USB one has no issues at all... is that correct? i don't have any soundcard installed
so that means i'll be using the mobo to connect the headset to....

I like the Corsair HS30/40 one but can't decide which one to go with. (i'm on a budget)

EDIT: i have the GIGABYTE 990-FXA-UD3 Motherboard. just incase if anyone wanted to know the onboard sound card.

any recommendations?

If you dont have a soundcard then the 3.5mm ones wont work, Theres nothing creating the sounds for it to play. They are basically detachable speakers. and not much else to them.

A USB headset has a soundcard built into them and you dont need another one is your system. Some even have a way to connect speakers for those times when you dont want to be on your headphones.

So you're saying that the USB one is the right hit for me?
I don't think that i'll be getting a sound card... not thinking of it at all.

That mobo does have onboard sound so I'd go with that. Then you can pick up a cheap 30 dollar card that supports whatever that dolby surround sound tech is. I thought it was going to suck but I quite enjoy it.

most motherboards have onboard sound (a soundcard right on the motherboard) so you can use 3.5mm headsets if you wanted.

the only reason where i would say you might want to definitely pick a usb over a 3.5mm is if you have trouble with your onboard (you hear crackling/static/distortion) otherwise its a fairly even playing field in terms of sound quality.

also... if you wand virtual surround but do not want to buy a soundcard then your only option is to use a usb set with the feature since it will have this built into its soundcard inside the headset.

but in terms of stereo sound.. a 3.5mm set connected to your motherboard or a usb stereo set are going to be pretty similar in terms of quality. the onboard soundcard in headsets is not really much better than onboard... its just not located inside your pc so has less chance for electrical interference. however, if your onboard doesnt seem to have any issues (and many do not) then its not really a difference worth noting.
