Analyst Thinks that Demand for the iPad is Fading??? Of course!!! If you already have one iPad, do you need another one... the analysts should now take a look of apple's app business... that's, where the revenue now comes from for apple... i/Phone/Pad/Pod is just a gatewey...

Tablets have been around for over a decade now, Apple just renamed them to "iPad".

Never care for them before, never care for them in the future no matter how many times it gets renamed or upgraded.... They will never match the power of my own built PC's.

What a misleading headline. Let's see what the first line of the article says.

QUOTE: At least Bill Shope, analyst at Goldman Sachs, believes that the iPad will be experiencing some "near-term demand challenges."

Notice the term WILL. This is Bill's prediction, not something that has happened already. In other words, nothing to see here, keep moving.

A tablet is for reading Car & Driver whilst sitting on the toilet, watching Netflix in bed, and playing Doodle Jump while, well, also while sitting on the toilet. They are very nice to have if you can afford to have another device around, but they are not meant to replace you PC for "real" gaming and productivity.

The demand for Ipads is shrinking probably because there are more and more competetors. I wanted to get a tablet last year but the alternatives where a joke. Samsung's, and Motorolla's marketing teams should have been fired for thinking they could enter a market and charge more for a crappier device. Now there is some pretty good competition and I cant wait to see what the transformer prime brings out.

Also, the tablet market is only going to grow. People don't realize this but there is a huge market for tablet type devices in certain workplaces and they are already starting to use them. As stupid as I originally though tablets where, I no longer think they are a fad, I think they are going to become a staple in our lives just like laptops have been and with options like a transformer tablet and maybe windows 8, maybe the laptop/tablet will be the next big thing.

Honestly, it should. I have an Android tablet and find that I use it less and less since getting my Android Samsung Galaxy S 2. I can't say the same about my Netbook. If I had to say which two devices I use most, I would say the Netbook and the smartphone.

Honestly, I just don't see the point of a tablet other than a way of consuming content in places I wouldn't ordinarily bring my laptop like bed or on the toilet. I'm still old fashioned, in that if i want to read a book, i'd prefer to have it in print rather than e-ink so e-readers are out for me too.
In terms of technology, as a student, I think the sweet spot is having a console for gaming, an ultrabook and a high end smartphone like the Galaxy s2.

Tablet = Portable convenient consumption.
Netbook = Portable somewhat convenient content creation, minimal consumption.
Smart Phone = Super portable, somewhat convenient consumption, emergency content creation.

Apple did a lot more than rename the good old $1000 x86-based tablet PC.
The old tablet PC was a niche market at best. Consumers just had no interest in a laptop without a keyboard. They were heavy, expensive, had no battery life and most importantly no software designed for use with a touchscreen.

The iPad was a completely new category of tablets: Light, insane battery life, with an OS and apps designed for touchscreens and priced within reach of consumers.

The consumer PC will die within 10-15years. That's almost a fact.

The "consumer PC" form factor as we see it now will probably become less and less common in most households over the coming years, but there will always be a place for a powerful box with large display(s) for many people and industries. Said box may shrink substantially, but a handheld touchscreen tablet will never be the perfect device for intense A/V editing, mechanical design, top-tier gaming (if it still exists), etc.

No way. The PC with a separate monitor and a separate keyboard will never go away. It won't be an ATX form factor or even a mini ATX form factor for much longer, but it will never go away. We will begin to see PCs the size of a standard 3 ring binder or a standard package of printer paper as the norm, then as small as a standard drive height optical drive...and maybe some day the size of a programmable scientific calculator. They may not have expansion slots. But people like me will not want to give up the ability to change keyboards and monitors while keeping the same computer. I don't want my computer permanently attached to a keyboard or a monitor.
