Anamorphic DVDs on Hitachi

What screen aspect do I use on a Hitachi 51S715 when watching
Anamorphic (enhanced widescreen) DVDs? I am assuming I need to use
"16:9 Standard" aspect setting when watching widescreen Non-Anamorphic
material.

Hitachi aspects:
4:3 Standard
16:9 Standard
4:3 Zoom1
4:3 Expanded
4:3 Zoom 2 - Big Zoom.
16:9 Zoom - Zoom (perhaps for 2.35:1 DVDs to eliminate black bars above
and below, but lose sides???)

my understanding is :
16:9 non-anamorphic - needs horizontal and vertical expansion
16:9 anamorphic - needs horizontal expansion only


I previuosly had a Toshiba Theaterwide (TW40H80) and I used the
following aspect settings.

16:9 non-anamorphic - Theaterwide 1 aspect
16:9 anamorphic - Full aspect

Again, What screen aspect do I use on a Hitachi 51S715 when watching
Anamorphic (enhanced widescreen) DVDs? Any help would be appreciated.

Just use full. The TV detects the type of DVD and does the appropriate
thing.

I am not familiar with that set, but my guess is that you would use
something like normal or full on the TV. The other thing you need to do is
to setup the DVD player correctly. For mine, I have to set it to the 16:9 /
4:3 (???) mode. I cannot remember what the (???) text was for 4:3, but it
was something along the lines that if you have a 4:3 set, it will make
people look tall and skinny. Even on my 4:3 set, I leave it set to this
16:9 mode. The aspect ratio does not bother me except that certain types of
vehicles look very boxy.
