[citation][nom]Silmarunya[/nom]I don't assume adoration for Steve Jobs and Apple in general is the primary reason for everyone to buy an iPhone. There are people with a lot of money but an extremely limited knowledge of technology and the iPhone is perfect for that market segment.Oh and your point is invalid. Just after the iPhone launched, it was a rational thing to buy it. After all, it had very little competition and was excellent in its day. Today however, it's a mere fact that the iPhone is technologically overtaken by its competitors.[/citation]
So it's either we blindly adore Steve Jobs, or we are technological retards? You sir, need to close your mouth, before your knee reaches your lips. I, for example, do NOT have alot of money. And I'm certainly not "very limited" knowledge-wise regarding technology. I'm in the military. My current billet is Audio/Video, Phone, VTC, and IT support for my area. I wouldn't claim to be an expert, but I know far more than the average, and above average consumer would know, or ever know. I'd even venture to say I know more about it than you... But this thread only needs one person assuming whatever they want
You talk about the iphone and android from a techie view point. Seriously.. stop that. The average consumer has absolutely no clue what "open source" means, nor do they honestly care. At all. They want a phone they use to call with, that has pretty little features, and pretty little buttons, and long long long battery life all wrapped up in a pretty little shell. The average android user does not root their phone. Does not customize the shit out of it like it allows. We, the techs, can, and tend to ALOT more than the average person.. but what we enjoy is a massively different world.. the average person doesn't scroll articles on THG. Ever. They watch football. Drink beer. Play with their kids, Go to school. Check their facebook. Go to the movies, and hang out with their friends. And the whole time, they want, once again:
"They want a phone they use to call with, that has pretty little features, and pretty little buttons, and long long long battery life all wrapped up in a pretty little shell."
Case in point.. almost every friend or person I've met to date that has a droid has yet to give me one solid reason for it being better. The most common answer so far is a three-way tie between:
"My friend X said its way better. He researched it" Or the equiv.
"The Rep at the X store recommended it." Smooth move.
"I heard its alot better and cheaper." >.> Yawn.
Now.. I could be making this all up.. kinda like your assumptions. Or not. Who knows. But I can at least tell that your assumptions are way off base.
