android tablet plays certain sounds while muted

On my android tablet running android 4.3 (i think) it will play sounds
Even with the volume all the way to mute!

Examples are like the built in countdown timer

Needless to say it is very annoying. When I mute it I expect it to be completely soilent

There are mul;tiple volumes on a phone/tablet, not just the one at the side. there is media volume, which is usually games and music, notification, which is messages or status bar ones, alarm volume which is alarm/timers/etc, and phone ring tone. Need to go into settings, sound, volumes and make sure all those are turned down.

Manually turning Dow the sliders did silence the timer thing but the stupid game
Still makes noise
