Any idea what is causing these strange patterns on TV

This is a 48" Panasonic Viera, from 2010. I bought it used, got home fired it up and you can see the "claw mark" patterns on the screen in the photo.

Did you look at the screen working before you bought it? How did you carry it to your car or home? Holding it under your arm might have caused that pattern.

I got the TV for almost free, (a friend of a friend). But never bothered to turn the TV on till I got home. I was very careful carrying the TV out to my pickup truck which was padded to protect the TV. I'll live with it because of how cheap I got it, but just was curious what's caused this.
