Any possible way to make 5.1 system into 3.1 in windows 8?

I've searched online but the only solutions I've come across are to disable the rear speakers so the sound goes through the front speakers. Windows sound settings only lets me choose 2.0, 4.0, 5.1 and nothing else.

Sorry if this is in the wrong thread or something but I didn't see any sections for audio in the computer section.

No matter what OS, the setting of 3.1 or 5.1 is in the audio manufacturer software.
(what computer do you have? what is the audio hardware manufacture?)
This software is supposed to be installed, or you can install it from the audio manufacturer website. OR the motherboard website, or the computer manufacturer website.
Open the audio software. You will find the settings. LOOK at the back of the computer.

What output jacks do you have?
It depends on the motherboard.
If you don't have all the jacks for 5.1 outputs, then you need a new board.
