Anyway to recover lost photos and video from a whatsapp group?

I'm on a group chat on whatsapp on my iPhone but when i went on the media tab in that group, i found that it said 'No media'. All the photos and videos i shared on that group were all suddenly gone, how is this possible when i havent even pressed any clear or delete button?

My friends on that group still have the photos and videos but i no longer do.

Is there any way I can get them back?

No because there are a lot of photos and videos to send, is asking my friends to resend them the only option?
