a hard time with picking the right processor for my wife's laptop I know the APU ones come with good graphics but she needs something faster and I like the turbo option for applications that only use one processor is this the way to go? Or is there much of a difference at all?

Well it really depends on what she is doing on her laptop, if it's something less demanding like general use like browsing, media and word documents an APU is probally going to do miles better than a mobile i5. This is due to the majority of mobile i5's being dual core and the higher end APU's A6's up are Quadcore, however as we know the i5 will perform miles better on single use situations were only a single, more powerful core is utilized.

I stress it's really down to what mobile i5 and what mobile APU you are comparing. The graphics on a APU are obviously going to be slightly better however unless your wife is into light gaming, (sims ect) there isn't really a point in picking a APU if she doesn't need the multi-tasking benefit...
