Apparently quad-core, mobile i7 have switchable graphics

So yesterday, my brightness wasn't working. I couldn't change it no matter what I tried, restarting, reinstalling drivers, power options, I could not seem to fix it. So I contacted HP support and here's what the guy suggested I do:

Apparently, my i7-720M supports switchable graphics. Why have I been letting this 5850 stay on the entire time?

Oh tech support, you never fail to amaze.
