No, I don't think Apple is right to trust AT&T. The company doesn't deliver on promises, period. It delivers on cash. If Apple paid AT&T to upgrade their network, they would. But while AT&T can be reasonably sure that they will maintain iPhone exclusivity, they won't change a thing.

If there was a real threat of a CDMA iPhone for Verizon, Sprint or others, then AT&T might do something.

1. AT&T also seriously gimps some of their phones. I have a Samsung Epix and it is extremely hindered by AT&T.
2. I don't think AT&T is delusional or egotistical, I think they made the conscious decision to put the money in their pockets and not into improved network, and they are trying to satisfy the public through advertising.
3. I don't care about AT&T vs. Verizon, I think they're both lowlifes. What I care about is service. I want a phone that works. I want the GPS to work, I want the internet to work, and I want it to work fast. I've been far too many places where I could get a good signal and talk on the phone fine, but NO internet connection.
