Apple headphones don't work

so, i just got my headphones today. i opened them up about ten minutes ago and just plugged them into my iphone 7 (i dont think they couldve been damaged through the mail because they were in the clear iphone plastic box thing still). theyre the kind of headphones that are plugged in through the charger port. when i plug them in, my audio keeps playing out of my phone, and all my headphones do is a very loud beep for a second and that's it, so no audio transfers to my headphones. please help ive been so excited to have headphones again finally but now i just feel let down

it does sound like they were damaged during shipping. You should probably return them and try again.
