iPad name - Fujitsu

iTV - The latest of a long list of take, take, take.

I would implore the executives of Independant Television PLC to reject any advances of Aplle to license the name in any fashion. Any use of the name should be met with rigorous litigation resulting not in a financial penalty but a court order banning the use of the name by Apple.

kinggraves, I seriously doubt that the next console will release for at least another year, seeing as there is no announcement, and Nintendo is still releasing first party games for the Wii. Plus, they just announced the 3DS, so releasing a new console would be foolish, and would force people to choose between the two. Also, by "challenging the Wii" I mean getting people to buy apps instead of Wii games.

I'm not sure if you even own a Wii, but I do, and a very large percentage of Wii games are just shovelware released to make a quick buck that are in no way higher quality than some of the better, $10 apps that people would be buying.

The argument about Nintendo going to downloadable content is completely ridiculous. Hardware wise, all the major consoles are capable of doing it, but no one has, even in light of Apple's (and Valve's) success. Why? Concerns about piracy, and brick and mortar retailers would go out of business. Why do you think Gamestop/EB has little or no PC games?

[citation][nom]Randomacts[/nom]What are they thinking... Higher def > apps Oh well I don't know anyone that even has a Apple TV[/citation]

Probably not if measured in profitability.

Read the first paragraph. Equal graphics capabilities, touch screen, app store, other multimedia features. The only thing the DS has going for it is the second screen, and first party games (Pokemon and Mario being the main ones).

Also, several months ago I sold my DSi on ebay to get an iTouch, so I have some experience using both.

Arguing that one would have to move the monitor to play games on iTV is also ridiculous. People might be able to wirelessly connect an iTouch or iPhone to use as a controller, and/or Apple could force developers that release iTV apps to make them compatible with whatever remote or controller Apple includes in the box.

of course. i mean its apple. what do you really expect. 1080p isnt even something new anymore. its a thing of the past. we already have resolutions higher than that such as 1600p. apple fanboys will just go "well we dont need 1080p." apple, how many times are you going to utterly fail before all your loyal fanboys leave you. step it up or quit the business.

[citation][nom]nebun[/nom]so much for AMD delivering...does this include the AMD chip?[/citation]
AMD can deliver just fine, but not when Apple puts a choker collar on their tech.

I know people who has apple TV with the main function being to show pictures to guests. Downgrading output is bad for that.

Pictures?
That's all?
You mean like how most people can plug their digital cameras into a USB port on a $30 DVD player and do the same?

Tell these people you know that they are insane.

"TV will apparently not have the ability to play 1080i or 1080p video. Instead, owners of the device will be watching 720p clips."

well that's just retarded. apple is really screwing up here.

[citation][nom]dassox[/nom]They talk about issues in screen size for apps between the iphone/ipod and the ipad, what do they think will happen when people put those apps on a 42 inch screen....[/citation]

Its a new feature called "iPixelation".

To put this into cost perspective - £99 in the uk (which is probably what it would cost if it came out here) could buy you a decent bluray player with 1080p bluray/mkv/hdd support, iplayer/streaming, or £150 you could probably get a freeview HD PVR box....

Suddenly you wonder if its good value at all considering I'm sure you'll have to purchase the content from itunes....

Its more likely that apple have skimped so much on parts that its not capable of playing back 1080p smoothly, let alone with HD sound too. The fact that most people cant stream 1080p is irrelevant as u can DL or buffer. And only putting out 720p is probably because the information/data source quality is crap, probably DVD source, so over interpolating to 1080p would look crap. Face it, you want HD? get blu-ray or sky HD. You want SD, get a free view box!

wow, talk about a F A I L . 1080p or i is A LOT for a processor to handle, that's probably why hey are dropping it. The A4 CPU they use, blows chunks.

Aww, all you poor anti-Apple people, spending yet another day on TH picking apart every little thing Apple does. You moan and groan while Apple makes billions. Say whatever you'd like here, or anywhere else, while those of us (myself included, go ahead and thumb me down) go on enjoying our Apple products and letting others who choose to use whatever it is that they prefer go on living their lives. =)

In case you didn't read fully, I'm aware there is no announcement and said they were working on it, like Sony is working on Playstation 4, it wouldn't be out this year. Nintendo will also release games for the Wii well after the next system is out, it's common for console life cycles to overlap. The 3DS being released is also irrelevant, since consoles and handhelds are two completely different markets. And yes, I do own a Wii, most games are garbage, most games on anything anymore are garbage, I don't buy the garbage, I buy the good games. The good Wii games are well worth 50 dollars and better than anything in an App Store.
Oh, and just because no one has done something before does not mean they aren't going to do it in the future. Nintendo themselves were in fact toying with the possibility of 3DS games being DLC. They don't care about Gamestop, Gamestop doesn't pay them for the privilege of selling a product. They make their money selling the game either way, whether it's on a server or in a box. Physical media isn't exactly preventing piracy for them either, Wii's well known for being the easiest console to pirate.

HD TV is only 720p... no one complains.

I know i don't sit @ home and watch blue ray 24*7, no big deal. As someone mentioned earlier, i don't know anyone with this product anyhow.
