[citation][nom]Marthian[/nom]how do you run out of pre-orders when it theoretically is still in production? Sounds like BSing and marketing.[/citation] Because people will blindly pre-order anything that sounds too good for them?

They simply ran out of stock, i.e. all iPads produced/stockpiled before launch day have already been sold.

There are 3 options when launching such a high demand product:
a) have enough production capacity to fulfill initial demand. This is expensive because production capacity is expensive and most of it is going to be idle when the initial demand drops off after a few weeks.
b) stockpile enough products before launch day. This means delaying launch for 1-2months, which is a lot of time for a product that's outdated after 6-12months.
c) Let initial demand outstrip production and let customers wait for 1-2weeks. Apple can afford to do that, because their customers won't buy any other tablet just because they have to wait 1-2weeks for an iPad.

I doubt this will be as bad as the iPad 2 launch. Lots of people already have tablets and are not prepared to pay several hundred bucks for an upgrade.

thats very nice, but how many ipads were actually pre-ordered? without a solid number this "news articale" is nothing but marketing/hype.

If you're trying to suggest that the new iPad wont massively outsell the iPad 2 launch then I think you're set to be proven wrong.

Wow at people really thirsty over everything apple slaps their Logo on. I am an owner of an ipad2 and i had the 1st as well. Each time i havent owned them for a full year before Apple decides to release a new one with a few more perks. What gets me is the desperation of ppl scrambling and selling shit just to keep up with the very latest when what you have is still relavent lol. Apple hasnt done enough to make me upgrade from 2 to this one. No flash,no real multi tasking, or atleast pnp while browsing, and remains high priced. A pretteir screen just does not cut it. I could sell this one and stand in line but why?? Idiots lol. Might as well trade in my 46 in tv too and my year old computer. they are so 6 months ago lmao

Apple again becomes the default option for people getting tablets. There really is no competition, Apple keeps upping the ante and even if the competition has the cards it is hard to keep in the game. I feel sorry for the competition, I ordered my on 1st day because I believed it would sell out quick and with the screen it will make it harder to make so incoming will probably be outstripped by demand, so several months before one could walk in and walk out with one. I planned to buy one for my business in the next few months so pull the trigger a little early. The price is killer for what one gets.

Call me when it has:
Better multitasking
MicroSD
HDMI
Bluetooth file-sharing
Flash
GPS (only 4G model has GPS)
Keyboard dock
USB host

TF Prime for me then.
In addition, I just want to say this: 4x the pixels, but only 2x better SoC? It'll be slower than the iPad 2, but not by a huge margin, but still.

You can still preorder at radioshack. All you have to do is walk in and ask to preorder the new iPad. You buy a 50 dollar gift card, which you can then use to pay for your shiny device, and they'll have it in the store for you on the first day!

-I definitely don't work for radioshack....
Complete sarcasm ^

[citation][nom]jimmysmitty[/nom]I love how they always sell out. I guess when you add features others have had for a while it sells out.[/citation]
Yeah, I know. Having a 2,048x1,536 resolution is so last year.

It multi-tasks in a far more efficient way than Android, saving resources without sacrificing usability. You've obviously never used one.

The bottom line is that, in its visual implementation, Apple's handling of multitasking is more approachable and elegant. Android's multitasking has the advantage of working with all apps, but the way it's implemented lacks grace and vision.

MicroSD - it doesn't have, but cloud based storage is a better alternative anyway. Edit: you can get it if you want (of course):

HDMI - you can get a cheap lead to connect the ipad to a TV with HDMI. You can also wirelessly stream.

It has bluetooth sharing

There are apps which let you run flash.

As you said, you can get GPS if you want that.

You can get keyboard docks for the iPad.

You can also get USB host for iPad - a 2 second google:

NOTE ON ALL OF THE ABOVE:

I added all of the above links in less than 30 seconds of googling. They may not be the best or the cheapest options, and 99% of people wouldn't want them anyway (making your whole rant pointless) - but they prove the point that if you need that support it's not particularly challenging.

Now show me an Android tablet which has a GPU as fast or a resolution as high as the iPad. Good luck googling that.

I just want to say this: 4x the pixels, but only 2x better SoC? It'll be slower than the iPad 2, but not by a huge margin, but still.

And to make this statement is to fundamentally fail to grasp how graphics cards work.

Let me give you a hint - there is not a linear progression. 4x the pixels doesn't necessarily mean 1/4 the FPS, since much of the processing is to do with vertices, transformations, shaders - which can stay the same regardless of resolution. Since both the iPad 2 and iPad 3 will have apps designed to run at 60 fps anyway - the only difference will be the much, much improved quality the iPad 3 is able to deliver when compared to any Android tablet.

[citation][nom]watcha[/nom]Oh I forgot to link the Flash app for iPad and iPhone:http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/sky [...] 41497?mt=8Another 2 seconds of googling which you weren't capable of.[/citation]
This app only implements one subset of Flash, and that is Flash video. Everything else is not possible on an iPhone, unless it's jailbroken.

Seriously, A dongle? This isn't the 90s, we have plugs all designed properly to fit right on the device, even one as thin as an ipad. I can't use a dongle to expand my storage options nearly as conveniently as it should be. Dongles are so inconvenient, and requires extra storage space. Why the heck would I want to pull out a dongle every time I wanted to watch/listen/do something that didn't fit on my tablet. Cloud storage is great and all, if you pay for a fast extensive data plan, or are next to a wifi network. But what if you are anywhere without wifi or a data plan, using the cloud suddenly leaves you out of anything and it becomes a brick. It's not uncommon for the cell phone network to drop out in underground buildings, or 90% of Canada, hell sometimes it doesn't even reach my house. even then it's not fast enough to stream hardly anything. Even my home internet goes down for days on end and sometimes I'm left without internet in my own home. It's inconvenient to tether it to things to add media when I could literally go outside now, buy a bunch 16GB microSD cards and turn a measly 16GB tablet into an infinite space tablet. Not convenient, but if I am going somewhere it makes a big difference. Also Micro SD cards are getting cheaper constantly, basically halving in price every year or two. It makes the storage space upgrade from a 16GB tablet into a 32GB tablet $20, or into a 48GB tablet for $40. If you use a dongle are you going to have that hanging out of the ipad constantly, dangling it everywhere you go? That's just asking to lose things and break them. I'd far rather let it stay in the device itself and not risk losing anything and the botehr with the inconvenience of pulling it out every day.

I could listen to you if you gave me one good non-monopoly reason why it doesn't have one. I'm all ears. It's a premium tablet but why is it missing a fundamental basic & useful feature that has clearly been patched over with an accessory?
